Congressman Greg Casar's ties to George Soros "dark money"
Greg Casar is US Representative to Texas's 35th congressional district and a former member of Austin City Council. Previously he was policy director of the Worker’s Defense Project located in Austin.
Greg Casar is a Travis County area politician with deep ties the network of George Soros-backed nonprofit organizations and politicians. Despite this background, Greg Casar likes to complain about billionaires and their “dark money” that allegedly finances detractors of his political allies like José Garza, but somehow doesn’t apply to his own funding.

Soros-funded organizations Greg Casar has held positions and Soros-backed politicians he received endorsements from:
Worker’s Defense Project, Policy Director; Casar also previously held a junior position at the under José Garza at the non-profit.
Local Progress, Board Member
2023 Delegation to Brazil funded by Center for Economic and Policy Research and Foundation to Promote Open Society.
Formerly endorsed by Democratic Socialists of America, an organization that has multiple Soros-backed members
Endorsed by other Soros-backed politicians such as José Garza and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and engaged in other coordinated activity.
Soros made a contribution of $2900 to Greg Casars Campaign in 2021 according to FEC filings.
Other Contributions made by George Soros to Greg Casar
The Austin Police Department (APD) allegedly investigated Greg Casar in 2020 for accepting illicit donations from George Soros.
November 13, 2020, an anonymous APD Evidence specialist made a complaint to the Office of Police Oversight about her coworkers discussing a corruption investigation into at the time city council members Jimmy Flannigan and Greg Casar receiving illicit payments from George Soros.
They also discussed that George Soros made contributions to José Garza’s, then-presumptive future District Attorney of Travis County, which is a well-documented fact.
This conversation seemed to have stemmed from concerns that APD funding for the forensics department might be separated. Greg Casar spearheaded this movement, which separated the forensics department from APD in 2021.
The initiative was also supported by an astroturf campaign called the Survivor Justice Project which was created by the Austin Young Democrats group and has since disbanded.
Despite the facts, the APD specialist claimed this discussion constituted a hostile and antisemitic work environment and that these discussions were “anti-semitic conspiracy theories.”
“I am shaking with anger that there are APD cops freely discussing anti-semitic conspiracy theories and I don’t know what to do about it. I hope you can help.” - APD Evidence specialist
George Soros is the subject of antisemitic conspiracy theories surrounding how he gained his over $6 billion dollar fortune and him having ties to the Nazi party that are unfounded.
The fact remains that George Soros is one of the country’s top political donors and is intensely focused on winning local elections. Soros also donates heavily to nonprofit organizations like the Center for American Progress and the Workers Defense Fund that groom politicians like Greg Casar and José Garza for public office then finances their political campaigns.
José Garza’s campaign strategist, Scott Henson, claims to have been in part responsible for the creation of the Office of Police Oversight. As of 2024, no resolution to this investigation has ever come to light.
Austin Police Department and the Texas Rangers have repeatedly told me that they are not allowed to investigate any crimes in Travis County without pre-approval from DA José Garza.
This leads to the speculation – did Garza shut down the corruption investigation when he entered office?
Sure, some of this may read more like a stellar resume for progressive, socialist-minded folks than a hard-hitting critique, but I would remind those readers to heed their own advice and never trust the motivations of a billionaire.
